Peaceful Schools is seeking experienced and enthusiastic seasonal part-time After School Program Assistants to apply their experience and expertise in specific academic, cultural, and social justice content to support the positive youth development of students who participate in the after-school program as well as the instructors and staff who run the program.
After School Program Assistants work with Enrichment Instructors and Director of Enrichment to support logistical and procedural day-to-day responsibilities, contribute to building community and promoting social competence with students, and provide support in classrooms and during dismissal.
The After School Program Assistant will also support the program by resetting students, assisting with conflict resolution, and occasionally providing class coverage when enrichment instructors are out.
Positions are available at HW Smith in Syracuse, NY.
*Duties & Responsibilities:*
* Work collaboratively with Peaceful Schools enrichment team.
* Support the creation and management of the peaceful classroom climate and a safe learning environment.
* Carry out engaging substitute lesson plans as provided by Enrichment Instructors as necessary.
* Maintain accurate student attendance/discipline records.
* Actively participate in professional development and training, as well as in select school-based trainings and meetings if applicable.
* Actively participate in Peaceful Schools staff trainings and meetings as assigned.
* Display strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude, and problem-solving skills in line with the Peaceful Schools Core Values.
* Ability to work independently and identify and solve problems.
* Follow all company and SCSD building policies, procedures, and protocols.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
*Qualifications:*
* Experience working in a K-12 setting preferred.
* Knowledge and experience planning and conducting educational lessons/activities for youth.
* Computer and social media literate including basics in Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
*Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:*
* Part-time Temporary/Seasonal non-exempt position.
Position ends on the last day of After School Program, on or about May 16th, depending on snow days.
* Typical schedule is Monday through Thursday, 1:30 – 3 p.
m.
* Attend professional development and full after-school staff meetings in SCSD building as necessary and/or assigned.
* Attend Peaceful Schools meetings and/or trainings as assigned.
* Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
